ACS/Team Sue Harmon Booth at Pleasantville Day~ Sat. May 17th, 2008

A bright day greeted us on May 17th as Team Sue Harmon set up for this years annual Pleasantville Day. Strategically located in Memorial Plaza across the lot from the gazebo, we were smack in the middle of the action for the entire day. And what a day it was! Thanks to the efforts of our wonderful neighbors, we sold delicious baked goods to help raise money for the ACS and Team Sue Harmon’s 2008 campaign. Helping us with our fundraising and outreach efforts were a number of family members, friends, neighbors and fellow survivors. Little did we know how much of an impact the day would have. The number of people who stopped by to chat, ask for advice or simply browse the various pins and ACS knick-knacks was outstanding. Sue connected with fellow survivors, folks who had loved ones facing post diagnosis questions and those looking to help make a difference. As the day neared an end, we had the great fortune to make a great bunch of new friends in the ragtime band that was playing in the gazebo. Little did we realize that two of the four members of the band were survivors themselves! With their encouragement we were able to finish selling off the last of our ACS bears. All tolled we had a great day – over $1,650 raised and a pledge for another $1000! Wow!

But wait, there’s more…..

One of helper’s parents arranged to have her company match the money we raised, upping our total to over $3,300! Money, however, isn’t the whole story. We were able to touch a lot of people that day – we raised awareness about the ACS and its mission, offered local support and our volunteers understood what it means to be a part of something bigger than the individual. Thanks to all who helped make this day a tremendous success. We’ll see you next year at Pleasantville Day 2009!
