Mia’s Summer Lemonade Stand~2008
On a warm summer’s day in July 2008, Mia Boemio, 1st grade graduate, decided she wanted to have a lemonade stand. This wasn’t any ordinary lemonade stand. Mia decided she wanted to raise money to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign. Mia’s good friend Muffin Hamm, and me, Sue Harmon (her 1st grade teacher) are both breast cancer survivors. Mia said, “ I wanted to do something nice for both of you, so I decided to have a lemonade stand!” On the first day of school this year, seven-year-old Mia marched up to my classroom, stuck out her arm, and presented me with a gallon-sized Ziploc bag filed with quarters, nickels, dimes, pennies and bills totaling $51.87! On behalf of Muffin and myself, I was honored to accept such a meaningful donation! Mia, we are so proud of you for doing such a wonderful deed for the American Cancer Society and showing this incredible act of kindness! Your donation will go directly to research, education, patient services and advocacy. You are MAKING STRIDES in the fight against cancer! THANK YOU, MIA!
